AMA Southwest Michigan is a professional chapter of the American Marketing Association, one of the largest marketing associations in the world with more than 30,000 members. AMA Southwest Michigan membership consists of marketing professionals, marketing educators, and business community members in Southwest Michigan. The AMA Southwest Michigan territory includes Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Van Buren, St. Joseph, Allegan, Barry, Branch, and Eaton counties.
Board of Directors
Ms. Marques is the Business Development Manager at Miller-Davis Company, a full service construction company providing general contracting, construction management, design-build and construction consulting services. She performs business development and marketing tasks for both enterprise-wide and project-specific purposes. This includes requests for proposals, presentations, public relations, advertising, branding, social media and website maintenance, among others. Prior to joining Miller-Davis in 2007, she was a national and regional media buyer for a large health + beauty product/service company. She is also a board member of Kalamazoo In Bloom. Ms. Marques is a graduate of Michigan State University with a B.A. in Marketing and B.A. in Advertising.
Mr. Winfield is a senior Business Solutions Partner for MLive Media Group, where he develops targeted digital marketing campaigns for Michigan based business that operate from regional to international in scope. Prior to MLive, Ryan served as media and marketing manager for Reedy Corporation in Kalamazoo, and developed marketing strategies for retail outlet OfficeMax. In addition to over 10 years of marketing experience, Ryan volunteers his time to support organizations such as Housing Resources Inc, United Way and Kids Hope USA, and enjoys coaching youth sports. Mr. Winfield attended Western Michigan University, and resides in Kalamazoo, Michigan with his wife and daughter.
Ms. Camp is Vice President of Marketing at ECCU which serves the banking needs for both consumer and commercial customers in Southwest Michigan. With over 20 years of marketing management experience in the financial services industry, Ms. Camp serves as part of the senior management team and leads the marketing department. She has experience in creating and executing marketing strategies, product development, business development, advertising, social media, event planning as well as retail and branding solutions. She is a member of the Credit Union Executive Society and the Credit Union National Association. She also volunteers as a board member of the Buy Local Greater Kalamazoo. She has been a member of the American Marketing Association since 2011 and previously served as the Treasurer. Ms. Camp is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and resides in Portage, Michigan. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
Ms. Fish is a Certified Public Accountant at Yeo & Yeo, CPAs and Business Consultants, a leading Michigan CPA firm and among the top 100 largest CPA firms in the United States. Yeo & Yeo offers industry-specialized CPAs and consultants that provide clients with forward-thinking, comprehensive solutions in all aspects of accounting, audit, tax, technology and business consulting. Ms. Fish specializes in government, education, non-profit, and agri-business entities with experience in audit, tax, and consulting. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan School Business Officials, and the Michigan Government Financial Officers Association. She also volunteers her time at Arc Kent County as board treasurer. She is a graduate of Grand Valley State University where she received a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting and finance. Ms. Fish resides in Wayland, Michigan with her two rescued Siberian Huskies, Jada and Zakoya.
Immediate Past President
Mr. Cunningham Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Lawrence Productions, a full service film and video production company. He earned his B.S. from Western Michigan University, with a major in communication and an emphasis in mass media and minors in English and journalism. Prior to joining Lawrence Productions, he worked in the music business in Chicago. He did national radio promotion for Windham Hill Records, sales and marketing for Feedback Distribution and marketing promotions for the 50-store music chain, Rose Records. He also worked in sales for WUHQ-TV (now WOTV) and a brief stint as an announcer at WKZO radio. Mr. Cunningham is also actively involved in several non-profit organizations such as InterCom, Telly Awards Silver Council, and the American Advertising Federation. He has been a member of the American Marketing Association since 2001.
Ms. Wilson is an experienced marketing and advertising professional and is an Account Manager at Newhall Klein, where is instrumental in new business development. Prior to joining Newhall Klein, she worked at MLive Media Group as an Audience Solutions Manager. She also worked for 16 years at Adams Outdoor Advertising in various capacities, including account executive, regional account executive, and local sales manager. Over this period, she has experienced the evolution of billboards from the days on hand painting to the new digital options that now are found in the Kalamazoo area. She began her advertising career at Jones Intercable, establishing the local cable advertising sales department in Schoolcraft, Three Rivers, Watervliet and Coloma, Michigan. She is a Kalamazoo native who graduated from Loy Norrix and Central Michigan University, and is passionate about “all things Kalamazoo”, demonstrated by her work with West Michigan Beer Tours as a tour guide of the areas breweries, among other activities.
VP Chapter Relations
Ms. Struck has been a member of our Board of Directors since the chapter’s founding in 2009. She served as chapter president in 2013-2014 and was Vice-President for Programs for three years. She has a diverse background in marketing management, business development, marketing communications, and public relations, having worked in professional services, higher education, publishing, and marketing agencies. She consults. Ms Struck is a member of the American Marketing Association and former member of the City of Kalamazoo Planning Commission; and active volunteer for non-profit fundraising events. She is also a member of WMU’s School of Communication External Advisory Board. She earned her M.A. in Communication from Western Michigan University and B.A. from Hope College with a Communication major and English minor.
Ms. DeVries is the North American Marketing Manager for Armstrong International, a Three Rivers-based company that designs and manufactures intelligent system solutions for managing steam, hot water, and air. She is responsible for the development and implementation of digital and social media marketing strategies, creation and execution of new product launch campaigns, sales lead generation and marketing collateral for the energy management solutions company. She has over 20 years marketing experience in various industries including manufacturing, restaurants and residential home construction. Ms. DeVries is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, obtaining a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing.
VP Collegiate Relations
Dr. JoAnn Atkin, Associate Professor of Marketing at Western Michigan University, has taught a number of courses since she joined the faculty in 2003, including: marketing principles, advertising and promotion principles, direct marketing, consumer behavior, social/non-profit marketing, marketing research, and integrated marketing communication campaigns. She has successfully coached numerous student teams to honors in regional and national student marketing and advertising competitions. She currently mentors students interning with the WMU Business Connection Office to provide high-quality, low-cost marketing solutions to the Kalamazoo business and nonprofit community. Atkin’s research interests include social and ethical issues in marketing and advertising. Her work has been published in a variety of academic journals and she also has presented her research at nationally recognized conferences, including the American Marketing Association’s Educators Conference and the annual conference of the American Academy of Advertising. She is a member of various marketing-related professional organizations and a former associate editor for the American Journal of Business. Prior to her academic career, Atkin gained professional experience in a variety of marketing communication and research positions and continues to consult in these areas. She has worked with such clients as Daimler AG, Art Van Furniture, Ford Motor Company, Health Alliance Plan of Michigan, Disney, General Motors Corporation, and Pfizer.
Mr. Hartlieb is President and Creative Strategist with On Purpose Branding in Schoolcraft, MI. The firm helps clients create strong relationships, build brands, and grow their businesses through dimensional promotional products and branded apparel. Mr. Hartlieb has over 30 years of experience “keeping clients in the conversation” with all forms of printing and promotional advertising product campaigns. He earned a B.S. in Arts & Media from Grand Valley State University and is a Certified Forms Consultant. Besides being a member of the AMA, he is a member of the Promotional Products Association International and the Advertising Specialty Institute. Formerly, he was president of Washington Forms & Printed Products, Inc. located in the Washington DC area. He is active with the Rotary Club of Kalamazoo and serves on its World Community Service Board and is also involved with Casa Amparo, a shelter for girls in Reynosa, Mexico.
Mr. Comes is Principal of C Marketing, a marketing communications firm that focus on understanding the right things to do and doing them right. Disciplined in all areas of marketing communications including branding, public/media relations, advertising, web, digital, customer management relations, graphic identification, social media and event staging. Tom has worked as an account/marketing director at agencies and companies in Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky; working on a variety of consumer and business-to-business accounts such as McDonald’s, Blue Care Network, Owens Corning, Ames Lawn & Garden Tools, Coachman Industries, Louisville Zoo, Borgess Health and Brunswick Boat Group. A long standing member of AMA, Tom gives back to the community through his involvement in Family & Children’s Services and the Borgess Run/Kalamazoo Marathon. Tom holds a BS degree in Marketing Management from Miami University.
Anders is Senior Underwriting and Marketing Manager at WMUK, the National Public Radio station owned and operated by Western Michigan University. After coming to Kalamazoo in the autumn of 1991 to perform in the Kalamazoo Symphony and study at the WMU School of Music, Anders worked for many years with local non-profits and the arts and education communities in roles as an educator, artist/scholar, and arts administrator. This service includes roles as Artistic Director of the WMU Bullock Performance Institute, and Interim Executive Director overseeing the corporate merger of Fontana and Chamber Music Society of Kalamazoo. He also has served on several community boards including those of the Kalamazoo Symphony and Intercom. Educated as a musician, Anders holds a bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin College, Ohio, and masters of music degrees from both the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Western Michigan University School of Music.
Jennifer is Creative Director at LKF Marketing, a full service marketing firm in Kalamazoo. Her passion is to lead her team to elevate client brands and create cohesive messaging across all types of media. She has also owned her own design firm, Hauschild Design, where she enjoyed working with a variety of clients to solve their marketing and design challenges. Jennifer believes strongly in community service, and is a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Kalamazoo, as well as a board member of Constance Brown Hearing Centers and the AMA. She is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a BA in Graphic Design and a minor in Industrial Engineering Technology. She also an avid gardener, LOVES to cook, is a runner/hiker and cyclist, and holds a private pilot’s license.
Jenni Piper is marketing manager at W. Soule & Co., a national mechanical contractor based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she is responsible for strategic design and implementation of targeted marketing and communication initiatives. She has experienced marketing from both the client and agency side of the desk having worked with various companies including Pharmacia & Upjohn Animal Health (now Zoetis), US Marine, Zimmer, Transformations Spirituality Center, Digital Highway and MidMichigan Health. She holds a B.S. in Agriculture and Natural Resources Communications from Michigan State University.
Coreen is a senior marketing specialist and marketing team lead for Western Michigan University, Extended University Programs and owner of Coreen Geary Communications. For more than two decades, she has dedicated her career to solving marketing communications problems for organizations. Her experience includes developing and executing brand strategy, project management, vendor and agency management, collateral material development, corporate communications, content marketing and writing. Prior to her current role, Coreen held marketing communications roles in health care, in higher education, in retail and in economic development. She earned a B.S. in public relations, a B.A. in philosophy (ethics emphasis) and a M.A. in organizational communications, all from Western Michigan University. She enjoys art, travel, music and cooking. Coreen lives in Kalamazoo with her spouse Kavan and their three children.
Karen has over 25 years of experience in Fortune 500 companies such as General Mills and Coca-Cola. While at General Mills, Karen became the first woman to lead the Latin American region for their worldwide JV with Nestle. She is an expert in brand and marketing strategy, product innovation, and international brand management. She is the owner and principal of BrandThink, a Brand and Marketing Strategy consultancy focused on creating strong brands that capture the attention and imagination of customers and creates a loyal customer base that delivers sustainable and profitable growth. Karen has an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business with a degree in Marketing and Corporate Strategy. Karen is a native of Spain and enjoys traveling and working in her fused glass studio and travel.
Wanda Myrick is Director of Marketing at Borroughs Corporation and is responsible for shaping their marketing strategies, as well as directing branding, public relations, social media marketing, tradeshow design, advertising, and promotional programs. Wanda brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role, with nearly two decades of advertising and marketing experience with national agencies and clients, and also holds a degree in Graphic Design. She is married and is the mother of two young boys. In her spare time she enjoys scuba diving, photography, swimming, biking, running and karate.
